63 Causes of Vomiting

While we may equate our dog's vomiting with the upset stomach we had yesterday after a bowl of ice cream, it's not really the same.  Stomach upset in dogs and cats isn't normal, and is indicative of a problem.  As you'll see below, there are many, many reasons your pet may be vomiting.

Dietary Problems:
 - Sudden diet change
 - Ingestion of a foreign material (garbage, grass, plant leaves, etc)
 - Eating too rapidly
 - Intolerance to specific foods
 - Food allergy

While some causes of vomiting may seem harmless, such as a sudden diet change, many point to a more acute problem - in some cases a life threatening problem.

Drugs
 - Intolerance of specific drugs
 - Accidental overdose

It's a different world for dogs and cats and we sometimes overlook common hazards because we fail to identify them.

Toxins
 - Lead
 - Ethylene glycol (antifreeze)
 - Zinc
 - Xylitol (found in chewing gum)
 - Others

Metabolic Disorders
